My first published review of Lawrence English’s new full length Kiri No Oto on Touch can be found over ‘ere

Surprise! It’s an ambient record! And a really good one too.

Mix / Blankets: No.4

I originally made these mixes for myself when i had a terrible bout of insomnia. The whole process helped me find my way back to a somewhat normal sleeping schedule. This series has been about creating a meditative head space. It’s multi layered and the tracks featured rarely are in their original form. Part of the fun in this process for me was creating unique edits and finding the perfect sequence, including layers of samples and field recordings, to create a floating-down-the-river sensation.

Big, big-ups to Strategy for lacing me with a gorgeous unreleased track, “Put Your Air in the Hands” (check it at 35m 45s). I had the pleasure of designing his Kranky debut Drum Solo’s Delight back in 2004. If you don’t already have it get it, it’s a classic.

I didnt feel like it was Summer at all until I layed out on Stinson beach last Saturday.

I’d like to big up these tunes for helping me to remember that it is, [despite San Francisco's best efforts], summer. And that i still do like guitars.

Both albums these songs are taken from remind me of a less dissonant Flying Saucer Attack. Especially this one, Tinderbox; from an exceedingly lovely album by Our Sleepless Forests)

Interactive poster design by mastermind Michael C. Place’s post Designers Republic studio, Build™ . Made for the ‘Interaphics’ show at Londons ARAM Gallery. Users interact with the piece by touching the conductive ink, this then triggered a series of events (slogans/Flickr feed/animations) beamed direct (via bluetooth) onto the poster using a high-resolution projector. After all these years, Michael C. Place continues to inspire and astound.

Over ‘ere: “R- Factor” Mix from Ryan Elliot made available back in May. Really good “in the zone” mix.

Microcostas

August 6, 2008

Maybe the greatest thing I’ve seen all year.

Constructed on coastline of a town midway between Barcelona and Valencia called Vinaròs, these wooden terraces called “microcostas” are the work of Spanish architect, Vicente Guallart.

The beach in Vinaròs is a rocky, somewhat inhospitble place, so these islands extend the coastline, making it possible for people to sunbathe, read, or explore the tide pools.

These Microcostas function is also, to create a unique relationship between each small cove and the placement of the deck. Each one a different frame with a different context to view the Mediterranian through.

While we’re on the theme of Mediteranian utopian relaxation- Modyfier posted a nice ambient mix from Donato Dozzy recently, called Nautical Drones. Which he dedicates to Circe. Hmmmm-respekt!
